What can I do if prison staff unlawfully interfere with my mail?

If prison staff to something to or with your mail that doesn’t follow the law in this section, there are steps you can take. These include:

• Complain to the Unit Manager or General Manager at your prison
• Complain to Corrections Victoria
• Complain to the Victorian Ombudsman

Important: If you make a complaint to someone working at your prison or at Corrections Victoria, you should write it in a letter and keep a copy of your letter and any response you get.

If you have already tried making a complaint to the prison or Corrections Victoria and either didn’t get a response, or weren’t happy with the response you got, you can complain to the Victorian Ombudsman.
