Applying to change my classification

You can apply to change your security classification at any time while you are in prison. Your application must be in writing and sent to the Case Management Review Committee (CMRC) at your prison.

The CMRC will make their own decision on your classification if:

• They are reducing your rating by one; and
• They have reduced your rating before.

In all other situations, they will take your application and give their recommendation to the Sentence Management Panel (SMP), who will make the final decision about your classification.

The CMRC must consider any information that is relevant to your application when they make their recommendation. They must allow you to make your own submissions (arguments), and they can also consider written submissions from friends, relatives or a lawyer.
