What do Corrections Victoria have to consider when deciding my classification?

When deciding your security rating, Corrections Victoria must consider factors that are listed in regulation 30 of the Corrections Regulations 2019 (Vic). They are:

  • The risk you present to:
    • The prison community;
    • The general community;
    • Yourself; and
    • Any other person.
  • The nature of the allegations leading to you coming to prison
  • The risk of you attempting to escape from prison
  • The risk of you committing an offence in prison and the potential impact of this on the prison community
  • Any risk you might pose to the management, security and good order of the prison
  • Any risk you might pose to your own welfare, or the welfare of other people
  • The length of your sentence (if you have been sentenced) or the maximum penalty for any offences you have been sentenced for
  • Any other factor that is relevant to the management, security and good order of the prison, and your safe custody and welfare
