What is victimisation?

Victimisation is when you have been treated badly or unfairly by someone because you:

  • Accused someone of discrimination, sexual harassment, vilification or victimisation
  • Made a complaint to VEOHRC
  • Are intending to make a complaint to VEOHRC
  • Assisted someone else to make a complaint to VEOHRC
  • Provided information or documents or VEOHRC
  • Hasve refused to do something that would be discrimination, sexual harassment, vilification or victimisation

Victimisation is against the law under the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic) and the Racial and Religious Tolerance Act 2001 (Vic). This includes people working at your prison and other people who are incarcerated.

An example of victimisation is if you made a complaint to VEOHRC about being discriminated against, and another person found out and started making threats towards you.

If you think you have been victimised by someone at your prison, you can make a complaint to the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission (VEOHRC). Use the links on the left side of this page for more information about:
