Making a complaint to Corrections Victoria

Every person in prison has the right to make a request or complaint to Corrections Victoria. This includes when you are not happy with a response from your prison to a request or complaint you made.

To make a request or complaint to Corrections Victoria you can write them a letter. You can post the letter in internal (free) mail to one of these people:

Assistant Commissioner, Sentence Management Division; OR

Assistant Commissioner, Custodial Operations

  • How the issue impacted you
  • What would make things right for you

What can I do if I’m not happy with the response?

If you don’t get a response from Corrections Victoria, or you are not happy with the response you get, you can make a complaint to an external complaint body.

Important: different external complaint bodies take complaints about different types of issues. It’s really important to make sure you choose the right one, otherwise you might have to start again.
